Regen 2000 was set up to manage a community-led programme of sustainable economic regeneration for the local area, basically BD3. It encompasses Leeds Road, Barkerend Road, Bradford Moor and Laisterdyke.
It was an area of high unemployment, poor housing, poor health, poor education and high levels of drug-related crime.
To help tackle these problems over £28 million has been allocated to the area from the Government‘s Single regeneration budget for a seven year period. With matched funding from private and public bodies this figure could top £71 million.
Regen 2000 works in partnership with community and voluntary groups and other agencies to develop projects to reduce the level of deprivation in the area and to provide an economic boost. By the end of its term in 2008 it aims to have set in motion the framework and its activities leading towards an economically active and self-generating area.
